Afterglow is New Zealand's most remote and magical music festival — set on Aotea / Great Barrier Island, 90km from Auckland in the Hauraki Gulf.
One day of live music, island hospitality, and community on an off-grid island with no supermarket, no mains power, and some of the darkest skies in the country.
We're putting together something special. The full lineup will be announced soon — follow us to be first to know.
We're putting together something special for Aotea. Stay tuned — the full lineup will be announced soon. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook to be first to know.
The kaupapa (purpose) of the festival is to showcase an amazing lineup of live bands, solo artists and DJs from across the country, and to create a vibrant musical event that reflects the spirit of Aotea and supports the local community by integrating local suppliers in the festival offering.
We exist to foster an inclusive, welcoming space where people of all backgrounds can gather to experience music, art, and island hospitality — while contributing to the local economy and providing opportunities for local vendors, artists, and performers.
This festival will be more than just an event — it will be a celebration of the motu (island), people, and the power of live music to bring us together.
Aotea / Great Barrier Island sits about 90km northeast of Auckland in the Hauraki Gulf. It's one of the last places in New Zealand with no mains power grid, no supermarket, and no fast food — just extraordinary scenery, native bush, and some of the darkest skies in the country.
Getting there is genuinely part of the Afterglow experience. Whether you fly over the gulf or take the ferry through the Hauraki waters, your arrival on the island marks the start of something special.
We strongly recommend booking your transport and accommodation early — the island's capacity is limited and gets fully booked during the festival period.
Barrier Air and FlyMySky operate regular flights from Auckland Airport and Ardmore. The fastest way to the island — book early as planes fill quickly during the festival.
Fullers360 and SeaLink operate ferry services from downtown Auckland and Wynyard Quarter. The scenic way to arrive — watch the gulf open up around you on the crossing.
